Real Madrid claim 11th after shootout drama

As sensational American singer, Alicia Keys rendered her amazing songs in the opening ceremony of the UCL final in Milan, it meant two things; Realmadrid being clear favorites will go ahead and conquer europe for the 11th time. You won't for a second think that Atletico madrid were pushovers. Definitely not. They have grown to own one of the most coordinated defences in world football. Which takes us to the second point we were to watch out for; They were huge contenders.

And so it happened in the 15th minute that captain, Sergio ramos lit up the san siro and sent a signal straight to the red men from madrid which reads " We are Realmadrid". Atletico certainly looked clueless after the first goal from the same man who began thier condemnation in lisbon 2 seasons ago in the same tournament. He just joined an elite group of four defenders to score in a UCL final.
But they steady grew in confidence,  controlling midfield with intent, luis felipe and saul exchanging passes beautifully, griezmann trying from long range to beat shot stopper,  Keylor Navas who kept his cool all through the first 45 minutes.
Ronaldo knew he needed one goal to beat the UCL goalscoring record of 17 goals - set by himself two years ago. But he barely had more than 4 touches with possesion of the ball in the first half as he was closely marked.
Atletico really needed to come out regrouped and stronger in the second half.  Of course they did. Griezmann tried to locate Toress with a pass to space and the latter was fouled by Pepe in the box.
Up stepped France international,  Griezmann;  hoping to bring back hopes to the atletico faithful. But his confidently taken left footed went straight to the upright bar. He had just missed a lifeline. Those things don't come as easy as getting a smooth pass from Xavi.
They equalised to the delight of football lovers worldwide with a well taken finish from Carrasco from close range following a cross from juanfran. That was typical atletico madrid. Die Hard!! They only wished griezmann had scored the penalty 30 minutes earlier.
San siro became alive once again. It was realmadrid now, that needed to bring something out of the box in a night when their top players were being marked closely really perfectly. Zozou had recently replaced Benzema for Lucas Vasquez; a move he'd have preferred not to sanction if the gzme was level.
90 minutes ticked, the madrid teams still level 1-1. Up came the Extra 30 minutes. Atletico had to remind themselves of lisbon; how  extra time dumped them to the shadows of the Galacticos. They needed to defend and drag the game to penalties which they really did.  It had to take Ronaldo - who was quiet all through the match to take the Honour of delivering undecima for real.
So, Atletico Madrid have played thier first 3 UCL finals without winning any - Juventus and Barcelona won on thier third attempts.
