SDG CDS GROUP VISITS SCHOOL, STUDENTS THRILLED

In pursuing the actualisation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the SDG CDS group visited All Saints Presbyterian School, Ugep on Thursday, 16th March, 2017. The topic chosen for the day’s sensitisation was “The importance of health as it relates to education.” Members of the CDS group led by Ejibeofor Jeremiah, the group’s President, took turns to educate the students about how and the need to stay healthy in order for them to be fit for schooling. They were also acquainted with SDG's and how they could key into it. The one-hour event was also graced by some teachers of the school and other members of the CDS group.

It was an eventful morning on Thursday 16th, March, 2017 at the Yakurr Local Government Council when the Medical and Health CDS group organised a Health Talk with the Corps members in the LGA. Corps members in different CDS groups gathered in the Council hall immediately after their respective weekly meetings on the order of the Local Government Inspector, Mr Dominic Brown. The Health Talk which was an interactive session had as its topic “Genotype, Blood group and Rhesus factor.” The first speaker, Pharm. Oyewusi  Wuraola, spoke briefly about genotype and tried to bring it home with layman perspectives and explanations. She, however, left the stage for Dr Awe Olaniyi John, a Corps member, who spoke extensively on the topic. After the session, questions and contributions were entertained from the audience. Others present at the event were the Local Government Inspector, Mr Dominic Brown, the CDS coordinator, Mrs Regina Etukudo and other Corps memb...

EDUCATION CDS GROUP EDUCATES HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The Education CDS group in Ekori town carried out their sensitisation Programme with secondary school students. The sensitisation which took place on Thursday, 23rd March, 2017 was a seminar on educational career at Eko Inika Technical College, Ekori. The speakers for the day led by the group’s President, Babalola Oluwafemi, spoke on topics varying from future ambition to the nitty-gritty of the admission process. Apart from Okoro Jonathan, Tay Racheal and Okeke Collins who were the other speakers for the day, others present at the seminar were the students of the school, some of their teachers and other members of the CDS group. UPHOLD ETHICAL PRINCIPLES- ANTI-CORRUPTION CDS GROUP

The Anti-corruption CDS group in Yakurr Local Government took their campaign for a corrupt-free society to secondary school on Monday 20th March. 2017. The sensitisation event, the second for this administration, was done at Girls’ Secondary School Ugep. The event aimed at teaching the young ones ethical values started around 08:20 with an opening speech by the group’s President, Babali Yerima, and was immediately followed by an engagement by Ms Chibuizor. Other speakers for the day, Ms Jumbo Christiana and Mr Emmanuel, took the students and the teachers present through the values that make a great country. The sensitisation Programme which apparently left the students enlightened and happy ended around 09:30 with the Questions and Answers session handled by Ms Christiana. Lawal Temitayo A.

EDUCATION CDS GROUP ORGANISES INTER-SCHOOL MATHEMATICS CONTEST, REWARDS OUTSTANDING STUDENTS.

The Education CDS group, on Thursday March 2nd, 2017, organised an inter-school mathematics competition for Junior Secondary school students in Yakurr Local Government. According to Mr Awonuga Oluwaseun, the group’s president, the last time such event was organised in the Local Government “by any CDS group or single Corps member was in 2005." The competition which had five schools in attendance was aimed at promoting academic excellence in Secondary schools. At the end of the contest, All Saints Presbyterian Academy came first with 15 points. They were closely followed by Girls Secondary School, Ugep which had 12 points. The third position was taken by Government Secondary School, Ijiman with 9 points. The winners were presented with certificates endorsed by the National Youth Service Corps. PRESS RELEASE TO SCMs IN YAKURR LGA ON DINNER

We are pleased to officially announce the quintessential Dinner for Corps members in Yakurr LGA. It's common knowledge that before now, Corps members used to organise their 'Send-Off Parties' in shards. We have consequently decided to take responsibility to unify these into the classic alternative of a Dinner which will avail us the opportunity to merry, capture wonderful memories and ultimately break ice with one another in way of forming useful alliances for the nearest future. It is hoped that this will be sustained and made an annual event. It is expected to be a night of glamour and accolades as outstanding Corps members together with NYSC officials will be awarded. This maiden edition has been tagged Yakurr Kopas' Dinner or #YKD, for short. CORPS MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN MONTHLY SANITATION

It was a morning to behold on Sarurtday, January the 28th when the Environmental CDS group collaborated with the Ugep Urban Development Authority, UUDA, for the monthly environmental sanitation. The members of the group, led by Obi Israel, the group’s president, split into four groups in order to cover the 4 wards in Ugep which are Ijom, Ijiman, Biko-Biko and Ikpakapit. The exercise ended by 10am and the Executive Secretary of the Authority appreciated the Corps members for a wonderful job. -SERIKI Adebimpe

Good day, fellow compatriots. As our raison d’ĂȘtre dictates, we in the Publicity CDS group deem it important to always acquaint you with necessary pieces of information as they come up. To this end, we’ve decided to write this brief release in order to put you in know of some latest developments. 1| CLEARANCE The January Clearance exercise will hold on the 4th, January, 2016. All serving Corps members are expected to be available for this important exercise. The Yakurr Local Government Inspector, Mr Dominic Brown, has also made it clear that the exercise won’t involve Batch B 2016 Corps members. 2| MONTHLY BULLETIN As part of our mandate to create awareness platforms for Corps members in Yakurr LGA, we came up with the idea of a Monthly Bulletin, named The Fountain, to report (activities like sensitisation), inform and improve pen creativity among Corps members.
